This is Karen’s first year at Loudoun Country Day School. After graduating from San Diego State University, Karen taught second grade at Rancho Santa Fe Elementary School in Rancho Santa Fe, California.  While raising her three sons, Karen was a substitute teacher through the North County Coastal Substitute Consortium. The NCCSC consisted of five school districts, which gave her the opportunity to work with children of different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.  She obtained her Master’s in Education with emphasis in National Board Teaching Certification from National University in 2017. Karen worked at Horizon Prep as a second grade assistant for two years. Last year, Karen was a Kindergarten Lead Teacher at Horizon Prep. In July, Karen and her husband, Jim, moved to Virginia. In her free time, Karen loves to hike, read, and travel. Her biggest hiking accomplishments are hiking to the summit of Mt. Whitney, California and crossing the Grand Canyon.
