Aileen Hawkins joined LCDS first as a parent in 2014. In 2016, she became the Director of Advancement, and in 2018, Middle School Director. Before moving to Virginia, she taught math, history and English at several independent schools, including Lake Forest Academy, La Jolla Country Day School and Sage Hill School. At Sage Hill, Aileen also served as the Dean of Academic Technology, worked on digital and print marketing, and chaired the Faculty Annual Giving campaign. After her move in 2014, she served as the Upper School Innovation Coach at The Potomac School, where she designed and taught Potomac’s first entrepreneurship course. Aileen holds a Bachelor’s degree from Princeton and a Master’s degree from Brown, both in Slavic Languages and Literatures. She is currently a doctoral student at George Washington University, and her dissertation focuses on independent school leadership. Aileen has presented at several digital learning and classics conferences and recently published scholarship about mythology in children’s literature. She enjoys traveling, singing and cooking with her husband, Erik, and daughters, Grace (’19) and Eve (’21).
