Sylvia Valchar joined the LCDS community in 2012. Born in Warsaw, Poland, she grew up in State College, Pennsylvania. She knew her heart belonged to teaching after volunteering at an elementary school during high school and spending several summers at Camp Laurel in Maine as a camp counselor. Sylvia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and her Master’s degree in Youth and Family Education from Penn State. Go Nittany Lions! She has taught in Aurora, Colorado (first and fourth grades), Houston, Texas (fourth grade for Teach for America) and for LCPS (kindergarten and first grade). She began her LCDS career as a fifth-grade teacher, and made the big move to kindergarten in 2016. Sylvia loves sharing her love for learning and helping students reach their potential through hands-on and experiential learning. She has three kids whose childhoods she relishes: Benjamin, Olivia and Noah. She loves watching them play sports, spending time with her husband Zach and their two dogs, Foster and  Charlie, traveling and shopping.
