LCDS Visual Arts
Tapping Into Creativity
Visual arts help our students develop the skills to become confident decision makers and excellent creative thinkers. Students learn and explore a variety of artistic disciplines and are encouraged to create from the heart.
LCDS’s comprehensive visual arts program inspires imaginative and reflective thinking. Two well-equipped, light-filled art studios and a 15-cubic-foot kiln provide students with the tools they need to try everything from ceramics to holography. The wide array of arts courses encourages students to find their gifts, challenges them to take artistic risks and opens their minds to the variety of creative expression. Exposure to multiple art forms and mediums is at the center of our visual arts program, and projects include throwing clay on the wheels, weaving with various materials, painting with acrylics and drawing with soft pastels. Faculty employ the instructional methods of Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE) and Design Thinking. By the time students graduate, they will have received in-depth training in traditional fine arts.
